WCA is excited to welcome our keynote for our 2024 conference, Dr. S. Kent Butler.
S. Kent Butler graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology: Counseling Psychology. A Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC), and Nationally Certified School Counselor (NCSC), Dr. Butler is a Past President of the American Counseling Association and is an ACA Fellow. He also hosted “The Voice of Counseling” weekly Vodcast for ACA. Dr. Butler is a Counselor Education Professor at the University of Central Florida (UCF), a former Faculty Fellow for Inclusive Excellence, has served as a Chief Equity, Inclusion and Diversity Officer, and is a National Association of Chief Diversity Officer in Higher Education Fellow (NADOHE-CDOFP).
Dr. Butler is a faculty advisor to CHI SIGMA IOTA International Honor Society (CSI), the Counselor Education Doctoral Student Organization (CEDSO), Project for Haiti Knights, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). He served as the Principal Investigator for The High-Risk Delinquent and Dependent Child Educational Research Project: Situational Environmental Circumstances Mentoring Program (SEC). The grant transitioned into the UCF Young Knights Mentoring Project and supports Hungerford Elementary School students in Eatonville, FL.
Dr. Butler is also a Past President for the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development (AMCD), former ACA Governing Council Representative, and an AMCD Multicultural Counseling Competencies Revisions Committee member which produced the Multicultural Social Justice Counseling Competencies (MSJCC). His research interests are Multicultural Counseling and Supervision, Social Justice, Mentoring, African American Males, International, Group, and School Counseling.
